The Inquisition (V6***) Offwidth
"Lonesome Crowded West" at Joshua Tree NP

This problem was my first ever battle with offwidth crack climbing. My friend Kyle was super-stoked on it; I figured he’s an excellent judge of character so I thought I’d check it out, too. It was a very new experience for me. However, with my propensity to “hit the ground running,” I dove right into it…feet first.
The problem starts beneath a low roof from which you exit feet first. This, of course, means you’ll be starting up the offwidth feet first. Herein lies the crux of the problem. Oh, and you’ll have to flip your body right-side up at some point, too, which I’m sure will be a crackload of fun.
I’m no prodigal crack-climber (or by any means, much of a crack climber) so this crux had me screaming bloody murder. I wonder how I’m going to train for this one? There are certainly no offwidth roofs anywhere to be found in the gym. Where do I practice crack-climbing upside-down? Quandery… Irregardless, I’m pretty stoked on this problem too, now, and I can’t wait to get back on it soon!
